Remote monitoring for symptomatic COVID-19 patients in primary and community care

A case study exploring the use of CliniTouch Vie after discharge from hospital with COVID-19.

By on December 9, 2021

At the height of the pandemic, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust piloted CliniTouch Vie to implement a virtual ward service for COVID-19 discharged patients. This case study explores the background, service use case and some early results.

Aims

The aim was to be able to discharge patients sooner onto the virtual ward, extending hospital capacity and relieving pressure on the clinical team. It was also introduced in response to NHS England advocating the use of technology to care for COVID-19 patients within primary and community care.

Patient cohort

Patients with COVID-19, enabling them to be discharged from hospital sooner. The intervention also supported people with mild to moderate oxygen desaturation levels that did not require hospitalisation. This case study focuses on the first 48 patients onboarded to the service.
